A Little History

New Life Tabernacle is deeply rooted in the Jackson, Tennessee area and has had a tremendous impact on this city. Originally, New Life Tabernacle was located on East Chester Street under the name of Faith Tabernacle being founded by a Rev. H. V. Hodge.

Rev. & Mrs. Travis Grimsley (Cynthia) were named pastor and under their capable leadership, the church was relocated and renamed. The Grimsleys pastored New Life Tabernacle for 25 years. During those 25 years, they influenced many lives. They established themselves in the community and through their involvement, earned the trust and admiration of countless numbers of people in city of Jackson.

In 2011, Rev. & Mrs. Glen Thompson (April) were elected as senior pastor of New Life Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church. Originating out of the St. Louis area, Glen, April and their three boys have adjusted well to the mid-south after spending several years at The Pentecostal Church in Memphis, Tennessee.

The passion of New Life Tabernacle is to create an atmosphere where people feel welcome and loved. On a weekly basis, New Life strives to present opportunities where lives may be changed as they come in contact with God’s presence. It is taught and practiced that God gives talents and gifts to everyone and as they grow in Christ, there are places where God can use that talent as ministry towards God as well as others.

Ministering to the needs of children and families has been at the heart of New Life and remains to be a priority. New Life continues to place great emphasis on reaching out to families from a variety of cultures and experiences. A number of ministries exist within New Life that are dedicated to reaching out to those that are spiritually hungry.
